Atlanta– For the past five years, the Dunbar Broncos have been gaining success in all youth sports. Their basketball team has done well in the summer league but it is their football program that has the community buzzing. The Dunbar Broncos have been serving the Mechanicsville community for over 20 years and their 10u and 8u football team, showcased that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with!

For opening day of the D1Spects Sunday Super Showcase, the 10u Dunbar Broncos’ defense put on a show holding the Albany Seahawks to just 57 yards of total offense in their 32-0 route. Then the 8u Dunbar Broncos closed the show with a standing applause  8-0 win over Locust Grove.

The Broncos started the action pack hard hitting game, with Mario Favors (Dunbar Elementary) splitting Locus Grove apart, like the red sea for a 65 yard touchdown on the first play.

But after the jaw dropping highlight, the football game would become a game of inches.  Broncos’ Coach DeRow told D1Spects, “Yes, it was a dogfight a lot of mistakes on both sides of the ball. But as they say, defense wins games.”

Linebacker Tre’Vaugn Perdue,  Safety “Scoot”, and defensive end “Chase” dug in deep and brought the pain as Dunbar held on to their 8-0 lead to win the game.

At 6u last year, they finished 8-1 in the City of Atlanta League play and 16-3 overall.  The 10u Broncos played up a level last year and finished the season 6-2 in City of Atlanta League

But it not their work on the field, it is their work in the classroom that concerns Coach Derow the most. He told D1Spects, “We value our players classroom efforts more then their performance on the field. Football will only take a kid so far in life, but what they do in the classroom will determine their success in life.” As for their football goals, the Dunbar Broncos’ mission is to have all age groups in the City Championship game and after their opening showcase, they are on the right step.
