ATLANTA, GA —  Just because they play in the City of Atlanta League doesn’t mean that this squad isn’t ready for the next level. DO NOT, we repeat, DO NOT sleep on Pittman Park.  There is something to be said about the long running history and tradition that is at Pittman Park. The discipline and parental support are a testament to their greatness.  Anchored by 30-year veteran Coach Robert Slaton, the Panthers, at all age groups, look like they were in mid season form.

The 9U division shined this session

Much respect has to be given to the Newnan Outlaws, they have true players.   Newnan lead the championship game 12 -0 until late in the 3rd quarter, when Antonio Molder #36 broke on a  46-yd cutback run to put the Panthers back in the game.  Both teams battled defensively.

4th down with Pittman’s ball on the Outlaw 45 yard line , 52 seconds left in the game, Pittman’s QB Mikal Jones , faked a pass and scampered 60 yards for the game tying TD.   Newnan took over the last possession of the game. On 4th down Newnan’s coaching staff dialed up a toss sweep to #25 Dayilon Freeman, who scores on the play. Unfortunately the play was called back on a penalty which sent the game into overtime.   A fumble on the extra point try would be a costly mistake for the Outlaws. The game ended the game with a 19-18 victory for Pittman. Undoubtedly the most exciting game of the day.

Standouts

#25  Dayilon Freeman

RB/LB  Newnan Outlaws 9U

We know that most of football enthusiast have already crowned the Atlanta Duck’s Hilton “Deuce”Alexander as the fastest player in 9U Georgia Youth Football, but Freeman has to be added to the conversation.  In twenty years of football, we have never witnessed a player beat the running back to the handoff and run it back for a touchdown.  This player was on every tackle and impacted every play whether it was through a run or a block. Finished the day with 168 all purpose yards and 2 touchdowns, to include a 60 yard fumble, interception, what ever you want to call it…one of the most spectacular plays we have ever seen at any level.  We will be happy to have him participate in our All American Bowl, January 16-18, 2015.  #getmygoldenticket.

#52  Tyrell McGuire

DT/OL Newnan Outlaws 9U

McGuire pitched a tent in the opposing offenses’ back fields.  Uses his hands well to fend off would be blockers and has an excellent first step to the gap.

#4 Mikal Jones

QB, Pittman Panthers 9U

Jones is a sure footed quarterback, who has great break away speed and a strong arm.  His 60 yard scamper tied the game for Pittman with 52 seconds left in the game. Mikal was also selected as tournament MVP.

#36 Antonio Molder  RB

ATH, Pittman Panthers

Molder needs to change his nickname to ” Money in the Bank.” This kid never ceases to amaze. His attitude and heart embodies the spirit of the game.  His football IQ may be ranked amongst the highest in youth football. He may only stand 3’9 and wear a size 3.5 shoe, but Molder has one intangible that most don’t have…heart.

#38 Nicholas Bennett

LB Pittman Panthers 7U

Bennett is Pittman’s heart beat on defense. Bennett fills running lanes and is not afraid to stick his nose in the play.

#4  Zion Crawford

QB, Hapeville Hornets 7U

Crawford was a steady performer all weekend.  The kid has good speed and can run inside and outside the tackle box with ease. A big hitter on defense, Zion made tw0 game saving tackles against Ben Hill.

#3 Tamonte Moore

Pittman Panthers 7U

Moore is a man amongst boys in the 7U division. A very versatile player, nice with the stiff arm and will run over you.  Reminds you of a small version of Earl Campbell.
